As part of its legal obligations in terms of waste management, the SNCF wishes to characterise the ballasted complex as bare during the railway renewal operations throughout the national market, which will take place between 2024 and 2028. The services of the contract will take place throughout the French network.

The service to be provided is divided into three missions:

- Mission 1: Collection of data on the project and the context, site visit and constitution of a program of investigations and analyses as well as the associated estimate.

- Mission 2: Investigations by a Geologist technician and analyses. Several configurations are possible (track and heap picking).

- Mission 3: elaboration of the final ballast characterization report. This report includes a detailed description of the project, the work and the results with the interpretation of the nature of the future "inert" or "non-inert" waste and the possibilities of recycling.
