The development and manufacture of jet stoppers is to be procured. These are devices that absorb and redirect the energy of the beam in an emergency. This serves to protect the areas behind and along the beam line in order to enable the personnel in the HE and LE areas of the Super-FRS system to have controlled access and work safely.
The Super FRS beam stoppers are mechanical safety devices to protect personnel who work in the areas of the plant with high (NE55) and low (NE57) energy. For this purpose, the beam of the upstream Super-FRS beamline is intercepted or diverted.
The device is moved into its two positions by pneumatic drives: "in" and "out". This is done within the beam guide to protect the personnel behind it (beam down) if the core block is positioned in the middle of the beam guide ("in" position). The block is moved outwards (“out” position) so that the beam can be guided downstream for further experiments. The status of the beam stop is checked and read out by the "Personnel Access System" (PAS).
A jet stopper actuator is installed in the vacuum chamber of the high energy branch (HEB) of the Super-FRS, the other device is installed in a vacuum in the section of the low energy branch (LEB) in a vacuum chamber.
The block that forms the core of the device is designed to absorb and sustain a certain amount of energy from the incident particles while stopping or at least dispersing the beam in an emergency.
During normal Super-FRS operation, the beam stoppers are not hit by the beam, so no cooling system is required.
The mechanical and technical design of the beam stopper is defined by the beam parameters such as beam energy and intensity. The scope of this tender includes the detailed technical design, the processes of construction, manufacture and delivery of the two devices. Both systems include the following:
1st block,
2. Pneumatic actuator (including actuator, valves, switches, compressed air connection),
3. connection flange and feedthroughs,
4. bellows,
5. cabling (including local switch boxes / control boxes),
6. PLC unit (including CPU and I / O modules and their programming),
7. Technical support for assembly / disassembly,
8. Spare parts.
