The initial requirement is for Airfield Generator replacement at Stansted Airport however it is proposed this Framework Contract may be utilised by the Manchester Airport Group for future Generator requirements that are yet to be established.

There are 8 fixed standby generators across the Stansted airfield, and 1 portable standby generator. These are required for regulatory compliance and enable continued operation of the airfield in low visibility operations by providing a contingency should permanent power feed to the Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) fail.

The airfield must have multiple sources of supply at all times — in general the generators are used as secondary to mains power in order to start upon mains failure however, there are some conditions in which the machines are required to start and run as prime even when mains power is available.
