Community Energy Scotland is seeking provision of 2 (originally 3) compressed hydrogen gas mobile store units to transport hydrogen from an electrolyser site on the island of Eday (Orkney, UK) to Kirkwall Harbour (Orkney, UK).
The mobile store will hold a minimum of 250 kg of hydrogen at 200 bar pressure. It will be transported by road and by sea, within the UK. Roads used are minor B roads where weight and length limitations apply, set by Orkney Islands Council. Transport by sea is made using RO-RO ferries (owned by Orkney Marine Services and operated by Orkney Ferries Ltd) that transport passengers and vehicles from and to the North Isles of Orkney. Compressed hydrogen is classified as dangerous goods (UN1049 Class 2.1) and its transportation must comply accordingly with UK regulations relating to transport by road and by sea.
