Evaluation and optimization of the long-term durability of digital storage media

According to § 38 StandAG, it is the task of BASE to permanently store data and documents that are or may be important for the final and interim storage of radioactive waste. For these so-called storage data, a permanent integrity must be guaranteed.

In this context, the long-term durability of storage methods presents itself as a particular challenge. Taking into account § 26 Stan-dAG or § 14 Of the Repository Safety Requirements Ordinance, selected dates and documents must be kept available and legible for at least 500 years after the closure of the repository in order to enable an informed decision on the recovery of the radioactive waste, if necessary.

Against this background, it is necessary to clarify which is the most suitable storage medium for digital data from a long-term perspective and which possibilities exist to optimize individual storage media accordingly. After successful completion of the research project, the BASE should be able to decide how existing and future storage data can be stored as efficiently as possible. In addition, the results are expected to be important in the context of the BMUV's Digital Agenda for Environmental Policy and the Federal Government's digitisation strategy.

The work for the provision of services must be designed for a total processing time of a maximum of 24 months and, if possible, start on 01.01.2023 after placing the order. Bidders must prove their suitability through professional experience for the personnel to be deployed and corresponding references from the fields of computer engineering, electrical engineering or materials research or comparable disciplines.
