Structural engineering, renovation and extension of a fire station
The fire station is located at Würzburger Straße 62 on parcel number 430 with 2,175 m², on the southern edge of the municipal area of Veitshöchheim and directly on the municipal boundary with the city of Würzburg. It was built and put into operation in 1995. In addition to its use as a fire station (usable area approx. 1075 m²), the upper floor of the building also houses a hall as an event room including club rooms (usable area approx. 385m²), which are barrier-free accessible via an elevator. In addition, these rooms have separate access via a steel staircase in front. A special situation on the property is the proximity to the ICE bridge of the Deutsche Bahn (land register entry). This and the resulting no-cultivation zone must be taken into account in the planning.
A total of seven vehicle parking spaces are available in the tool shed. Six of them are located in a common hall, one parking space is located in a separate part of the building. In addition, there is a washing hall separated from the main hall. Attached to the vehicle hall are other functional areas such as a general equipment warehouse, a fuel depot and workshops for equipment maintenance and the maintenance and filling of breathing apparatus. In terms of area, the largest proportion of storage space is located in the basement. In addition, there is a full line for hose care and testing as well as a full tower for drying the hoses. Furthermore, separate sanitary facilities for men and women, including washing and shower facilities, are located on the ground floor. For women, there is also a separate changing area with twelve lockers. The 77 men's and 15 youth lockers are arranged in the vehicle hall. The necessary social and utility rooms as well as a spacious and flexibly partitionable training room, a kitchen and office space for the commanders and the equipment maintenance are located on the upper floor. These are not barrier-free.
The municipality intends to renovate and expand the fire station for reasons of accident and health protection or for tactical and organisational aspects that harbour potential for improvement or need for action. In particular, the available parking spaces are not sufficient in terms of numbers for the vehicles provided. It is currently not possible to store all equipment in the shed in an accident-proof manner. Further additional space requirements are considered to be needs-based and necessary with regard to the storage areas for equipment, equipment and other materials. Another reason for the renovation is the inadequate traffic routes for the emergency services when approaching the fire station in the event of an alarm (intersection traffic). The wooden windows installed during construction have reached the end of their service life after 26 years and need to be replaced. The same applies to the central heating system installed in 1994 with a nominal output of 130 kW, which is operated with gas, and its heating control.
