The subject of this framework agreement is the provision of video interpreting services

The correctional facilities of the state of Baden-Württemberg house around 6,100 prisoners (as of April 2021) in the areas eligible for service; the proportion of foreigners is around 45 percent (criminal detention: around 41 percent; remand: around 56 percent)

The “video interpreting” service has been offered nationwide in the Baden-Württemberg prison system since mid-2018. The number of inmates in general and the proportion of foreign prisoners who have to use interpreting services due to a lack of German language skills are not subject to calculable fluctuations. Even in the event of existing language difficulties, the necessary need for interpreting services can be completely different for individual prisoners. Therefore, with regard to the expected amount of “video interpreting” services, it can only be given as a non-binding indication that the use of video interpreting services in 2019, there were a total of around 900 calls (video interpreter assignments) and a total of around 1050 calls in 2020; in the current year 2021, utilisation has so far been around 130 calls per month on average.
