The Center for Basic Medical Research (ZMG) as the umbrella of all core facilities of the Faculty of Medicine organizes the core facility “flow cytometry” at the Ernst-Grube Str. 40 site, where the laboratories of the medical faculty's clinics are located. The availability of cell sorting and the associated expertise is irreplaceable for planning and carrying out various third-party funded research projects. This can be documented by the utilization of the interdisciplinary use of core facility flow cytometry. The ever more specific requirements of high-class biomedical research require the purchase of the most versatile cell sorter as possible. This means that the need for particularly complex sorting strategies can not be guaranteed with existing devices (even under S2 conditions) or can only be rudimented. More extensive sorting tasks as well as parallel sorting up to 6 subpopulations cannot be guaranteed.
For the ZMG, a 6-way high-performance cell sorter is to be procured with 7 lasers including a 440-445 nm and a 785 nm laser with the possibility to detect > 30 fluorescences+SSC/FSC, sterile sorting, S2 capable (class II biosafety), anti-aerosol unit, single cell sorting, for at least 96 and 386 well plates, agitation and Sample temperature control, high-speed sorting (> 30,000 cells/second) and nozzles in the range 70-150 μm, 2 sets of sorting nozzles (4 different nozzle sizes in the range 70 to 150 μm).
