In accordance with Section 13a (6) of the Water Resources Act, the Expert Commission on Fracking was set up by the German Bundestag in 2018. The Commission was constituted in May 2019. The Commission is administratively assisted in its work by a secretariat. Since the contract for the current office expires at the end of 2023, the contract is to be put out to tender again in order to maintain the Commission's ability to work in the future. The bidder operates the office with the associated tasks.
