Dorset County Council is setting up a framework for use by schools and academies in Dorset (including Bournemouth and Poole) to provide delivered in primary school meals.

Kitchen facilities were removed from schools in the 1980s — therefore there are no prime cook facilities. Over the last ten years infrastructure has been put into schools to enable a delivered in cook chill method of service or a delivered in hot service — there are some schools which have no washing up facilities and so there is a requirement for the meal provider to provide a washing up service at the central kitchen.

Meals must be produced at premises in Dorset — and providers must have an office in Dorset from where the service will be managed from, the total production capacity of the facility must be at least 1 000 meals per day.

Existing arrangements end at various times over the duration of the framework.
