The University of Sheffield (UoS) with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is establishing a Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre (SAF-IC) to support and promote the production and characterisation of decarbonised and sustainable aviation fuel. Further to our previous tenders (3073/JN, 3325/JN and 3566/JN) we are looking to complement our research capability and procure the following two test instruments approved to various ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards as well as other internationally recognised standards where appropriate.
As a non-specification property, surface tension is a relatively-rarely-measured property that is relevant to fuel atomization in gas turbine combustors (as are viscosity and density). SAF-IC is looking to buy an automated instrument for surface tension quantification in conformity with ASTM D1331, for the UK aviation fuel-clearing house.
SAF-IC is looking to buy an automated mid-range Infrared Spectroscopy, in the range of approximately 4000-400 cm-1. This is for identification of functional groups in aviation fuels, for the UK aviation fuel-clearing house.
