Technological trends and approaches to offloading traffic from mobile networks have an impact on the overall demand for spectrum to be used for wireless broadband services. The objective of the study is to have a socio-economic assessment of recent technical developments including femto cells that will significantly affect spectrum demand for wireless broadband and the efficient use of spectrum. Also the impact on access and backhaul networks including fixed networks should be investigated.
