The aim of the planned flood protection for Markt Schwaben is to protect the existing buildings and traffic routes from flooding by the Hennigbach and its tributaries. The basis of the design is a hundred-year flood event plus 15% climate surcharge, i.e. the water flow of the Hennigbach should be regulated by suitable measures in such a way that a flood event that statistically occurs once in a hundred years can be discharged without damage. The implementation of the measure is carried out taking into account the state development program
Bavaria, according to which settlement areas must be protected against flood events with a return period of 100 years. The measure is eligible for funding according to RZWas.

The flood protection of the market town of Markt Schwaben is to be implemented with central and decentralised measures to prevent further flood damage caused by the Hennigbach. A total of three flood retention systems are planned. These are the HWRB Einbergfeld (approx. 223,000 m³), the HWRB Gigginger Bach (approx. 34,000 m³) and the flood protection measure "Am Rossacker" (approx. 2,000 to 5,000 m³).
