Many of the contents and activities developed by the Science Park are related to biology and the environment in a broad sense. The knowledge, explanation and need to conserve the biodiversity of our planet is one of the fundamental objectives of the Museum, which seeks to raise awareness in a global, intergenerational and supportive attitude. Thus, there is a series of spaces such as the Tropical Butterfly Garden, Raptors in flight, the Botanical Routes, the Darwin Pavilion, the BioDome and also terrariums, aquariums, aquaterrariums, ecospheres or anthills scattered throughout the different rooms of the Museum, which seek to show this biodiversity through the exhibition of live animals and plants in an attractive and understandable way for all types of public. and facilitate the understanding of the enormous biodiversity of our planet and the ecological interactions that make it possible, the result of millions of years of evolution.
Taking into account the technical characteristics of the facilities and the species available, as well as the dynamics of operation of the Center, it is necessary to have a company specialized in the integral management of this type of facilities in such a way as to ensure the coverage of all needs, such as the care of the different specimens of animals and plants, maintenance, cleaning and environmental enrichment of animal enclosures, feeding, veterinary care, maintenance, supply of new materials and repairs of facilities, customer service, etc. All these services of this service of this contract must be governed by a fundamental premise, which is animal welfare. The World Organization for Animal Health (OiE) states that an animal is in a satisfactory state of welfare when it is healthy, comfortable and well fed, can express its innate behavior, and does not suffer pain, fear or stress
The Science Park is registered as a zoo with number REGA ES180870000160 and is a full member of the Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AIZA) since 2018.
Therefore, the subject of this specification is the contracting by the Science Park Consortium of the administrative contract related to the integral management of the following spaces of the Museum (except the BioDome, which due to its singularity and complexity is already the subject of another administrative contract):
• Tropical Butterfly Garden
• Raptors in flight
• Aquariums, terrariums, ecospheres, anthill, etc. distributed throughout different spaces of the Museum
And with the following benefits referred to:
• Maintenance and comprehensive veterinary assistance of all living beings in the zoological collection, as well as the specific maintenance of animal enclosures, their environmental enrichment, their museography and specific equipment for their life support.
• Maintenance of infrastructures and general facilities assigned to the service.
• Attention to the public and realization of didactic workshops.
It should be noted that, although the integral service is broken down into three main benefits, the FUNDAMENTAL PREMISE that must govern the contract in all its parts is ANIMAL WELFARE, understood as the state in which the animals are so that they enjoy living conditions appropriate to their needs and enjoy good health.
The nature of all services means that they are connected for scientific and technical reasons. The interrelation posed by the contract is essential for a harmonious implementation and execution of these services.
