Digester 2 of the Siegen sewage treatment plant was built in the 1970s as a prestressed concrete tank and is still operated in accordance with its function today.
The tank has a gross volume of approx. 3,600 m3 and a diameter of 16.5 m in the cylindrical part. The total height is approx. 21 m, with the lower truncated cone integrating approx. 7 m into the ground. Accessibility is via an approx. 580 mm manhole near the ground in the cylindrical part and via the dome openings. The container is mixed vertically with a screw shovel that sits in a flow guide tube.
The digester is to be comprehensively renovated and modernized. The planned refurbishment includes structural repairs, renewal of the process technology and energy optimisation.
