International Nuclear Services Ltd (INS) requires the transport of Post Irradiation Examination ("PIE") fuel remnants from the Institute for Transuranium Elements ("ITU") Karlsruhe, Germany using an appropriate transport package (eg NCS45 or equivalent) compatible with ITU hotcells. The transport has been classed as a Category III shipment.
The PIE shall be transported to an interim facility which can perform hotcell resizing and repacking activities and provide storage capacity for up to 12 months.
The successful tenderer will ensure that the transport package is.
(i) fully certified and (ii) fully licensed by the relevant competent authorities for the identified route to the interim facility. The route chosen must be aproved by the relevant regulators/competent authorities and appropriate licences must be in place.
The material comprises ~23kg of irradiated fuel (cermic pellets in zirconium alloy cladding) encased in pressurised stainless steel pins (12 off), pressurised to 3.5 bar.
Dimensions of pin form: Length 3 875,0 mm, Diameter 12,0 mm.
The pins will require resizing (disassembled and reduced in length) to allow repackaging into smaller (~100mm x 100mm) cans to be provided by INS (for eventual final delivey to Sellafield).
Collection of the material from its current location is required by end 2012. The successful tenderer will be able to meet or improve upon this timescale, provide all elements of the transport to the interim facility and undertake the subsequent resizing operation and storage of the material.
Expressions of interest including all information required under Section III should be submitted electronically to the Tender Box address detailed at Section 1.1 above.
