The subject of the award is a contract for the creation and delivery of an on-board computer system including ITCS for buses in the region of Bavaria consisting of vehicle hardware, vehicle software and a land-based background system, including the
Bringing about operational readiness by the contractor on the basis of a
contract for work and services, system service after acceptance and the further development of the overall system.
The following services are included:
- Sale of vehicle hardware incl. embedded software, esp. On-board computer (incl.
barcode scanner, tablet, customer display, printer, interfaces, USB interface),
mobile on-board computers (tablets), TFT monitors and contactless read/write devices for
e-Ticketing;
- Permanent provision of on-board computer system software, consisting of a
Cloud-enabled application software including ITCS ("background system") and software
on the (mobile) on-board computers incl. ITCS, e.g. for communication with and access to
the background system ("on-board computer software")
- IT services in the context of the creation of the on-board computer system and the establishment of operational readiness through (support with) the set-up, installation, customizing and integration of the system components;
- Further development and adaptation of the on-board computer system, in particular the on-board computer system software, according to the individual needs of the client;
- System service (i.e. troubleshooting to restore and/or maintain the operational readiness of the on-board computer system or parts thereof, and
Delivery of new program versions);
- Schulungsleistungen.
- Provision of the background system to be created and permanently provided by the contractor in a cloud infrastructure operated by the contractor
for use in DB Group via the Internet ("cloud service")
The client, Omnibusverkehr Franken GmbH (OVF), serves more than 80 percent of the area of the state in Bavaria with 7 other bus companies of DB Regio Bus and brings around 100 million passengers safely to their destination every year with a total of 2,700 buses. The head office of the regional management is located in Ingolstadt.
The client "belongs" to the DB Regio Road business unit of DB Regio AG, which is responsible for all regional transport activities (rail and bus) of the DB Group in Germany. This also includes - to a lesser extent - transports to neighbouring countries.
With the introduction of a new system, the following objectives are pursued:
• Renew the outdated hardware
• to meet the increased requirements for automation and process efficiency of the commissioning transport companies
• Promptly and flexibly implement the requirements of the market and our public authorities, e.g. with regard to e-ticketing, cashless payment, on-demand transport, multimodal applications of on-board computers and much more
• to create the basis for new and innovative approaches
For the IT system to be procured and implemented, a functional standard solution available on the market is to be used, which is already being used successfully in practice outside of DB Regio Bus. The aim is to participate in the market developments of the past and the future. Operational processes are simplified, more efficient and clearer. In this way, the best possible quality in the provision of services is to be achieved even in operationally difficult situations and with considerable resource bottlenecks.
The new system, consisting of software and hardware, is designed to meet the following functional requirements:
• Maintain tariffs, carry out ticket sales and transfer the sales data to the revenue management system,
• support the bus driver with navigation, sales information, communication with the control centers and emergency procedures,
• inform the customer on the bus about routes, delays and special features and carry out connection safeguards,
• Generate real-time and operational data and send it to the control center and timetable information systems
Type and scope of the services to be provided by the contractor:
• Sale of vehicle hardware including embedded software (e.g. driver display, printing and control unit, customer display, etc.);
• Permanent provision of cloud-capable standard application software ("backend system software");
• Permanent provision of vehicle software on the vehicle hardware, e.g. for communication with and access to the back-end system software ("front-end software");
• IT services in the context of the creation of the overall system and the achievement of operational readiness through (support for) the installation, customizing and integration of the system components;
• Further development and adaptation of the overall system, in particular the backend system software according to the individual needs of the client;
• System service (i.e. troubleshooting to restore and/or maintain the operational readiness of the entire system and delivery of new program versions);
• Schulungsleistungen;
• Provision of cloud services, i.e. provision of the background system belonging to the on-board computer system in a cloud infrastructure operated by the contractor, including the necessary access
