Description:

DLR's test facilities for rocket engines have a high demand of GN2 for different applications. To supply the test facilities a central nitrogen system exists. The LN2 is pumped to different pressure levels and evaporated from the liquid phase. The pumps are supplied out of 2 x 30 m3 powder vacuum insulated tanks. The installation of 2 new 50 m3 thermosiphon tanks is required.

Scope of Supply:

1) detailed engineering and design of a complete tank system (system proposal from DLR):

— prove of proposed concept (correction if needed),

— finalizing P and ID, Valves, measurement devices,

— determine pressure class and diameter of piping according of mass flow,

— specification of measurement devices,

— specification of valves;

2) detailed engineering and design of components as well delivery and Installation of it.

At DLR Test center Lampoldshausen ESA is testing Rocket engines in the frame of Ariane program. The test facilities have a high demand of GN2 for different applications. To supply the test facilities a central nitrogen system exists. The LN2 is pumped to different pressure levels and evaporated from the liquid phase. The pumps are supplied out of 2 x 30 m3 powder vacuum insulated tanks. These tanks are 30 years old and have shown problems with the vacuum insulation. Furthermore the old tanks are not suitable to supply the currently installed pumps in an optimum way. Therefore the installation of two new 50 m3 thermosiphon tanks is required.

Scope of Supply:

1) detailed engineering and design of complete system (system proposal from DLR):

— prove of proposed concept (correction if needed),

— finalizing P and ID, Valves, measurement devices,

— determine pressure class and diameter of piping according of mass flow,

— specification of measurement devices,

— specification of valves;

2) detailed engineering and design of components: o E.g. sub-cooler;

3) erection planning (considering temporary supply during installation of new system);

4) detailed specification of LN2 tanks:

— determine of connections (position, diameter, pressure, type),

— determine of main dimensions,

— finalizing P and ID, Valves, measurement devices,

— finalizing of DLR tank specification (status draft).
