The paramount objective of the project is to contribute to more knowledge about how a large number of immigrants with a refugee background, and family reunited with them, can maintain an enduring association with working life.

To achieve this, Integrerings og mangfoldsdirektoratet (IMDi) [the Directorate for Integration and Diversity] and Arbeids og velferdsdirektoratet (AVdir) [the Directorate of Labour and Welfare] believe that there is a need for a qualitatively oriented study that:

— investigates causes of drop-out from working life and barriers against enduring association,

— increase understanding of various mechanisms that apply in this group's association to working life over time,

— describe mechanisms that apply on a group level and not only an individual level,

— highlight the problems from the group's perspective,

— highlight the problems from an employer perspective.
