As an infrastructure service provider, TraveNetz GmbH ensures the operation of the networks for electricity, gas, water and heat for the Lübeck region and the surrounding area. The company currently employs around 500 people and, together with Stadtwerke Lübeck Holding GmbH, Stadtwerke Lübeck GmbH and Stadtverkehr Lübeck GmbH, is one of the largest employers in Schleswig-Holstein. TraveNetz GmbH is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Lübeck GmbH and is held by the latter to 74.9%. 25.1% of the shares are owned by Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG (SHNG).

The managed network area extends with a total length of 6560 km of pipe / cable network to the area of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and the Lübeck area. The electricity network with a length of currently 4,540 km makes up the largest share, followed by our gas network with a length of 1,142 km. Added to this are the water networks with a length of 743 km and the district heating network with 135 km, which are managed on behalf of Stadtwerke Lübeck.

Currently, access to the supply and generation systems and networks is implemented using a purely mechanical locking system.

The systems and networks include:

- substations and switchgear,

- network stations and cable distribution cabinets,

- Gas transfer plants and gas pressure regulator stations (Ex areas),

- waterworks and wells,

- Combined heat and power plants and heating plants.

The existing, deferred, purely mechanical locking system cannot meet today's requirements from IT security and ISMS ISO 27001 management systems. The progressive business field development (digitization and broadband) can no longer be mapped in the rigid locking hierarchy beyond the classic supply areas. The requirements for dynamic access authorization for service and subcontractor control cannot be met.

The introduction of an electromechanical locking system aims to achieve the following goals, among others:

1. Mapping of complex locking authorizations in the technical systems of the company divisions using an electromechanical locking system and replacing the purely mechanical locking,

2. Fulfillment of the security requirements and evidence from IT security and ISMS certification ISO 27001 with regard to access authorizations,

3. Dynamic installation and blocking of locking media and allocation of rights, also with regard to service and subcontractor control.
