Transport for the North is the organisation established to transform the transport system across the North of England, providing the infrastructure needed to drive economic growth.
TfN wish to procure a managed platform in order to provide software to record disruption messages which can then be distributed simultaneously to multiple sources, including social media, on street displays and open data users.
TfN also wish to procure a managed service for the design, build and operation/maintenance of an Open Data Hub for the North of England which will link developers and open data users to existing public transport open data, and new open data from the Fares Phase 1 and Disruption Messaging initiatives.
TfN is working in partnership with public transport operators, Local Transport Authorities and the Department for Transport (DfT) to deliver the Integrated and Smart Travel (IST) Programme.
TfN's IST Programme is delivered in three tranches. Tranche 2, ‘Customer Information, Collaboration and Innovation Activities’ relates to the continued delivery of smart and integrated travel benefits including enhanced customer information such as disruption messaging, open data sources and sharing knowledge with operators and transport authorities to identify new opportunities for collaboration.

The contract term will be a minimum of 12 months from the commencement of the service (i.e. 12 months from when the service is starts to be delivered), with the option to extend by 4 years (1+1+1+1).
TfN has secured funding from the DfT for this initiative for a minimum of 12 months. It is envisaged that the contract for the provision of the Disruption Messaging platform will be novated over to (and funded by) LTAs or other Authorised Parties after this initial funding period.
