Ilmenau University of Technology plans to create a design and analysis workstation consisting of a filament extruder for FDM printers, a plug-in for existing SolidWorks software, and a powerful laptop.

This workstation will be used to create custom filaments for FDM 3D printers. STL-format models are to be converted into solids via parameterized surfaces via a plug-in for the software available at the university.

The extruder is used to produce filaments suitable for the FDM rapid prototyping process.

The measuring computers are used to record measured data.

This software plugin allows the parameterization of point clouds to surfaces and further to complete 3D bodies.
