Description:
Single-Party Framework Agreement for Online Collections User Interface including On-going Maintenance & Support Services

NMI had recently undertaken a project with Knowledge Integration, a company specialising in middleware which connects museum collections databases, which resulted in an integrated public index and media store representing the NMI collections in preparation for sharing collections online.

There are currently over 1.1 million items integrated into CIIM from a number of source collections management systems. This is comprised of ca 80,000 images, ca 625,000 museum object and specimen records from across a wide range of disciplines (Archaeology, Natural History, Decorative Arts, History, Folklife, World Cultures) as well as authority terms. These numbers will grow over the coming months to include archives and library holdings and in the longer term will include drawings, 3D images, video, and sound recordings.

The framework agreement was established on foot of this tender competition for an initial contract for Online Collections User Interface. The initial contract was awarded to the successful tenderer shortly after the formal establishment of the framework agreement.

An initial contract was awarded under the framework for two (2) years, with the option to extend for three (3) further periods of up to two (2) years, subject to a maximum duration of eight (8) years.

• NMI were seeking tenders from interested parties to develop a public-facing search and display website for the public index. The index is presented to the user interface as an Elasticsearch index with media files stored on a webserver, accessible over https. Additionally, a machine-readable API returning results in JSON was required. The key requirement from the interface was that it will be user-friendly for the museum’s public.
