Only a new device is to be offered.

General requirement:

Analysis system for VOCs using gas chromatography and detection via flame ionization detector (FID) and mass spectrometer (MSD) with pre-concentration and focusing on cooled trap and subsequent thermal desorption

Sample feeding via thermal desorption unit, which is suitable for sampling on packed tubes (dimensions ØxL 6x89 mm or 1/4x3.5"), as well as from canisters or completely online directly from the outside air

(Cooling) trap with inlet and outlet split including recovery/recapture of the split eluate on freshly conditioned TD tube

Different flow direction during adsorption and desorption of the trap for combination sorbents

Certification of the TD and GC-MS system for hydrogen as a carrier gas. Compatibility with hydrogen, nitrogen and helium.

It must be demonstrated that when hydrogen is used as a carrier gas under standard conditions for EI ionization, surface-catalyzed reduction reactions are reduced to a minimum in order not to obtain significantly different mass spectra than under helium as a carrier gas (for NIST database comparison)

2 mass spectrometers (project Venus and Pluto)

The State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) NRW intends to procure two mass spectrometers for the examination of samples for organic trace substances in water for timely water monitoring.

Geräteanforderungen

The mass spectrometers (MS) are to be integrated in combination with existing Agilent gas chromatographs of the type 7890A as a replacement for two older GC/MS (Varian, now Agilent) in two similarly designed online purge & trap GC/MS systems at the Bad Honnef and Kleve-Bimmen measuring stations.

The systems consist of:

- in-house sampler/autosampler (liquids) for time-controlled sampling from the pipelines of the measuring station,

- Purge & Trap concentrator from Teledyne/Tekmar (type Lumin in Bad Honnef, type Stratum in Kleve-Bimmen,

- Gerstel cold feed system (KAS) as Cryo Trap with modified firmware for real-time operation.

The gas chromatographs have so far been used for liquid injection with the KAS, which are now to be reinstalled at the free assembly stations. In addition, the side walls of the GCs must be prepared for use with the MS to be supplied. At the GC in Bad Honnef, a GCHI heater is to be dismantled in the right side wall.

To communicate between the GC/MS and the other components of the online system, only the TTL signals Ready and Start are required. The control of the KAS is independent of this. Carrier gas is supplied externally via the Purge & Trap concentrator.

For the operation of the entire systems, personal computers and software for the control of the GC/MS, for the recording and evaluation of the chromatograms (hereinafter referred to as workstations) are to be supplied.

1. Quadrupole mass spectrometer

- Turbopumpenbetrieb mind. 240 l/s (He)

- Tables with the analyses to be executed must be able to be imported from text files.

- The control of GC and MS must be stored in a single method file.

- The evaluation software must include automatic and manual peak detection, calibration and quantification taking into account internal standards, library search for mass spectra and an editor for creating libraries.

- Tables with analysis reports must be automatically generated and stored in text files or Excel files.

- The software must be able to export mass spectra to the NIST program for spectral comparison. In addition, you must be able to open the raw data files with AMDIS.

- An upgrade of the NIST library to the current version must be included.

- The documentation must contain an exact description of the format of the raw data, so that scans with retention times, mass numbers, intensities can be read by programmers.

Alternatively, a program must be supplied that stores the corresponding information completely in text files - preferably automatically as a post-run after each analysis.

- It must be possible to disable restrictions on the execution of the software for certain users.

- It must be possible to switch off all GLP functions.
