The University is upgrading buildings on the current campus to increase and improve the facilities currently on offer and expanding onto a new 160-acre site atHeslington East. The site of Heslington East lies on land close to the current campus at Heslington, on the outskirts of York.
Due to the expansion of existing facilities, energy demand is expected to increase 2-fold over the next 20 years. Effective energy management and consumption reduction is at the cornerstone of the University's developmentplans. A number of energy targets and strategies are in place to reduce baseline energy consumption includinga detailed Carbon Management Implementation Plan. However, to reduce CO2 emissions further (and cost effectively), onsite renewables are required.
This contract is for the supply and installation of a Biomass Energy Plant and the operational management for the plant.
The project is to install a modular Biomass plant. It is expected that the plant will ultimately have a heat output capacity of 2.5 MWh in the form of hot water and will operate at full capacity for the majority of the year, distributing heat via the University's district heating system.
