Planning of the cooling supply of the Bergmannstrost Clinic.
1. Initial situation:
EVH operates a refrigeration system consisting of two absorption and one compression chiller (AKM 1, AKM 2, KKM 3) at the site of the Dieselstraße combined heat and power plant in Halle (Saale). The AKM are connected to the district heating network and use heat to generate cooling for the supply of the Bergmannstrost Clinic, which is about 200 m away. There, cold water is used to ensure the air conditioning of the server rooms, medical facilities and buildings.
The hospital's annual cooling energy requirement is approx. 3,300 MWh, of which 2,800 MWh are provided by the AKM. Approximately 4,700 MWh of district heating will be used to generate cooling energy from the absorption chillers.
The district heating temperature level required for the operation of the AKM is at least 90 °C and thus determines the minimum flow temperature in the district heating network. This restriction of absorption refrigeration technology hinders a further reduction in temperature in the district heating network and thus the increase in efficiency in the district heating network. The future target district heating flow temperature in summer is 80 °C.
2. Future care concept:
The future cooling supply of the Bergmannstrost Clinic is intended to enable a low-emission and flexible provision of heating and cooling by combining different, market-proven technologies. The heat extracted for the production of the cold is brought to the temperature level of the district heating network and fed into the grid. As a result, the two forms of energy generated (heating and cooling) are used directly.
Based on the existing preliminary investigations, the concept of a compression refrigeration system with coupled use of heating and cooling and its technical and economic dimensioning, installation and integration into the existing systems is to be reviewed and further developed.
The following investment measures are to be used:
- Kompressionswärmepumpen,
- a cold accumulator as well as
- an air cooler to dissipate heat from waste heat to the atmosphere in the event of unavailability of the district heating network.
The existing cooling network to and in the Bergmannstrost Clinic will continue to be used unchanged, as will the district heating network.
The task includes the service phases based on the HOAI phases 1 to 8 with all necessary and appropriate planning and specialist planning services as well as the services of the special experts.
The assignment is to be carried out via the two project stages listed below, but with a step-by-step call-off. In the event of call-off, the contractor is obliged to perform.
- Level 1 (HOAI service phases 1 to 4):
o Planning – refrigeration heat pump system incl. cold storage and air cooling + air-heat pump switching operation
- Level 2 (HOAI service phases 5 to 8):
o Implementation planning and implementation of the variant of the overall concept developed on the basis of the previous planning
The retrieval of follow-up stage 2 depends on the receipt of requested funding and the positive investment decision of EVH or its committees.
