The NHS needs a new software system for post processing and quality control of depth data, i.e. processing of multi-beam data after acquisition is done. This also includes post processing of tides and positions. This procurement is mainly due to the fact that Kongsberg Maritime no longer wishes to provide support and maintenance for our current system: Neptune. The main goal of the project is to get a more efficient process from depth data to approved XYZ data.
The new system should be able to manage the high volumes of data produced by modern multi-beam echo-sounder (MBES) systems. It must also be able to efficiently visualize the data in 3D. Furthermore the system should have efficient statistical algorithms for data cleaning. Based on the cleaned dataset, reporting of shoals should be performed in an efficient way.
The system shall be able to identify and distinguish between the different cleaning operations that have been applied to the affected points.
It is important that the same system can be used for quality control and validation of depth data in the field and in the office. This means that the system must meet the needs of both groups of operators.
With occupational health and safety in mind, it is important to reduce the amount of manual operations and mouse movements as much as possible.
