Description:

The overall objective of the study is to give an overview of existing policies and practices in the area of personnel vetting and background checks in the EU, and to explore areas where possible policy initiatives at EU level would have added value in terms of enhancing security. This relates to personnel dealing professionally with explosives and high-risk CBRN material, including visiting students and personnel that would have access to sensitive information that could be misused for malicious purposes.

The Commission will use the study to consider possible measures at the EU level. The study can therefore contain concrete proposals or recommendations for policy options.
