The Institute of Chemistry at Chemnitz University of Technology is to be accommodated on the campus of Reichenhainer Straße as part of a major construction project (GBM).

The subject of the planned contract is the services of engineering surveying during construction in accordance with Annex 1 No. 1.4 HOAI, for the construction of a technical building with a total usable area (NUF1-6) of approx. 8,290 m² and other uses (NUF 7) of 1,065m² plus technical areas of approx. 2,500m². The expansion of inter- and transdisciplinary teaching and research will play a central role in the field of natural sciences in the coming years. For this reason, it is imperative that the Institute of Chemistry is located close to the Institute of Physics and the engineering faculties on the Reichenhainer Straße campus.

The site is located south of the central lecture hall and seminar building of Chemnitz University of Technology and is wholly owned by the Free State of Saxony. Parcel 860 is located in the district of Altchemnitz. The area measures an area of approximately 9,100m². The area to be developed drops from 334m above sea level to about 329m above sea level. The property is located outside natural, water protection and flood plains. The open space, which is currently overgrown with shrubs and trees, is lined by the street Reichenhainer Straße.

For the construction project, € 32.8 million gross was determined for KG 300 and € 37.7 million gross for KG 400 on the basis of the qualified demand notification (as of 07/2020). The construction project is subject to compliance with the funding conditions within the "Infrastructure at Universities" programme.
