Elly Heuss Knapp School - Renovation of the existing building and new extension, structural planning in accordance with § 51 HOAI
The order includes structural design in accordance with Section 51 HOAI, Elly Heuss Knapp School, renovation of the existing building and new extension.
A phased commissioning of services from LPH 1-6 structural design is planned. In addition, the LPH 8 - object monitoring, engineering control of the construction of the structure for compliance with the tested static documents - will be commissioned as a special service.
The Elly Heuss Knapp School (EHKS) is a primary school that consists of 5 buildings in total: The administration building marks the start of the school in the north, followed by three parallel, bar-shaped school and class wings. The gym and the sports field form the southern end. The five buildings are connected by covered corridors; schoolyards are located between the school buildings. The Elly Heuss Knapp School has been listed as a typical example of 1950s and 1960s architecture in Darmstadt since 2015.
The school is currently suffering from a significant lack of space due to changes in all-day care and the pedagogical concept. There is a space requirement for 4 classes/classrooms with differentiation rooms and an all-day area. A new building is to be built for these rooms. There is also a high need for renovation of existing buildings. This includes structural fire protection (lack of second structural escape routes for the classrooms on the 2nd floor) and accessibility issues.
Project goals:
A. Project objectives Structural engineering:
- Implementation of the present competition draft
- The new building is to be planned as a hybrid building. The building envelope is prefabricated in wood-panel construction.
- Adaptability to future needs
,
e.g. project goal economic efficiency and sustainability, life cycle costs
In addition to the design and functional requirements, the cost-effectiveness of the measure is of particular importance. The goal of building planning must be to comply with the specified investment costs and to minimize life cycle costs. This includes the creation of optimized area values for the planning and construction phase as well as a high-quality choice of construction and materials. The use of materials rated as sustainable is desired. The aim is to achieve a pleasant indoor climate with suitable building materials. The selected designs are to be optimized with regard to renovation and modernization.
