Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH operates several combined heat and power plants in Leipzig, in particular the Leipzig combined heat and power plant, several combined heat and power plants that supply heat to the Leipzig district heating network. In addition, Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH is planning to build a flexible gas turbine heat and power plant, the HKW Leipzig Süd. The plant is to be built at the power plant site in Leipzig South on the Bornaische Straße 120 property, 04279 Leipzig. To provide electricity and heat, it is planned to build 2 gas turbines with an identical design with natural gas with an electrical output of 62.5 MW (ISO). The heat coupled out by HKW Leipzig Süd is fed into the district heating network of Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH. HKW Leipzig Süd should also be equipped with a heat storage unit, which increases the degree of flexibility of use by decoupling the power and heat supply.
