5G: The population's risk perception and opportunities for dialogue-oriented science communication
The new mobile communications standard 5G is currently and gradually being introduced in Germany in the coming years. Similar to previous generations of mobile phones, this raises concerns about health risks in a part of the population. The publicly available information situation is diffuse and the topic of the electromagnetic fields used by mobile communications is technically complex. Traditional local information events consisting of lectures and Q&A sessions tend to mobilize citizens who are skeptical to oppositional about mobile communications. The usual participant and age structure of the public there therefore does not necessarily correspond to that of the entire society and its cross-section of opinion. The aim of this research project is therefore to link demoscopic instruments and dialogue-oriented formats that methodically go beyond the usual citizens' information evening. Using a sample of random citizens, it is necessary to examine the effect of deliberative information on participants' views of mobile telephony/5G.
