As part of the redesign of the inner-city square areas and the renovation of the underground car parks, the city of St. Georgen in the Black Forest intends to comprehensively renovate and partially rebuild the town hall in terms of energy efficiency with a municipal council resolution of 19.04.2023.
Several studies in recent years on different scenarios and locations led to the decision to renovate and partially rebuild the town hall, inaugurated in 1972, under an extremely sustainable, holistic approach.
In this context, individual focal points of use, such as the citizens' office, the tourist information office, will be reconsidered and organized, but additions such as the library with multi-functional areas and rentable rooms will also be planned.
Climatic aspects, among other things, played a major role in the decision between new construction and renovation. The town hall is centrally located in St. Georgen and represents a self-confident architectural contribution typical of the 1970s.
With the current measure, the city of St. Georgen expects that a building that characterises the townscape will once again be created in a contemporary, architecturally sophisticated attitude.
It is planned to develop an ecologically but also economically sensible concept while preserving grey energy as much as possible, mainly with our own local woods.
In doing so, clever, simple and practicable solutions with regard to energy measures should preferably be taken into account in an integral design before complex technical systems.
For all planning disciplines, this requires extensive experience and the willingness to develop interdisciplinary solutions.
The use of one's own wood from one's own forest requires special measures with regard to time and process engineering processes during planning and tendering.
For this purpose, experience in individual disciplines is required so that one's own wood is actually used.
The underground car park will also be renovated, where 53 parking spaces will continue to be available.
In principle, as many existing components as possible should be used during the renovation.
