Description:
University of Bremen Refurbishment NW I Specialist planning for heating, ventilation, sanitation

Services of the technical planning of the technical building equipment for the construction project renovation NW 1 are to be awarded in accordance with § 53 HOAI. The subject of this procedure are the plant groups of sewage, water and gas plants; heat supply systems; Ventilation systems.

The University of Bremen intends to renovate the building envelope (façade surfaces including windows as well as roof surfaces) of the buildings "Block North" and "Block South" of the building complex Natural Sciences I (NW I) in terms of energy efficiency. Likewise, as part of the construction project, pollutant remediation (asbestos, KMF and PCB) and fire protection upgrades are to be carried out in parts of the above-mentioned building blocks.

The building complex NW 1 at the University of Bremen consists of several individual buildings that were successively erected between 1971 and 2010. The parts of the building affected by the construction measure are the so-called preliminary stage buildings of NW I from 1971, the founding period of the University of Bremen.

The existing buildings to be renovated consist of five-storey reinforced concrete skeleton structures with a curtain wall made of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements. The usable area is approx. 1,000 m² per level and building block. The entire building ensemble is connected by a glass hall, in which the central access is also arranged.

The energy-efficient renovation of the building envelope can result in new aspects for energy efficiency in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical installation. For example, the radiator surfaces, heating manifolds, heating capacity, pumps and air conditioning capacity are to be checked and adjusted. An age-related replacement of systems and system components (e.g. in the ventilation systems) is to be checked and carried out as part of the construction project, and decaying systems are to be replaced. The electrical supply must also be checked, components must be upgraded in terms of energy efficiency or replaced under the aspect of an energy-efficient renovation. The data network needs to be restructured.

Since 2016, the remediation of pollutants and the upgrading of fire protection have been carried out. Levels 1 to 4 in the North Block have already been completed, Levels 3 and 4 in the South Block are currently under construction. Level 0 in Block North (1,000 m²) and Levels 0, 1 and 2 (3,000 m²) in Block South still need to be renovated as described.

The renovation measures as well as the upgrading of the fire protection are carried out with reference.

The planning phase is scheduled for 2024/2025, with the construction phase to follow in sections from 2025 until 2030.
