The contract is for the construction of an exit free E6 with a central reservation from Vassmarka to Ronglan. Overtaking lanes are to be constructed on a stretch in both directions. The existing E6 must be expanded for the entire stretch in order to fulfil the current requirements for curvature and width. Due to the proximity of the railway, some of the expansions must be made towards the west. This means that the local road must be permanently altered in some places. A temporary diversion road must be constructed at the north end to lead traffic outside the curve with a large rock cutting.
The expansion of the E6 means that the existing culverts and bridges must also be extended.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration plans a 2 year construction period, with the southern part being completed in the 1st year and the northern part being completed in the 2nd year.
There are challenges connected to heavy traffic on the E6, proximity to the railway and bad ground and a lot of blasting in some stretches.
