SCAN drilling

Part of the SCAN programme consists of carrying out a number of 'scientific' drillings. The purpose of the drillings is to collect data. This data is an important addition to the knowledge that is already being collected through the seismic research and reprocessing of data. With the drillings, measurements can be made to determine the suitability of intended aquifers for geothermal energy. This additional information is needed to get a better picture of the subsurface for the future application of geothermal energy.
