As part of the evolution of Tabloo and ONDRAF's product offering, ONDRAF is looking for an external partner to update, replace and complete this product offering. Tabloo's offer consists on the one hand of a permanent exhibition and on the other hand of additional content and educational products such as various workshops, site visits and educational walks. To remain relevant, current and attractive to the various visitors, it is necessary to constantly renew Tabloo's offer (replacement investments).
On the one hand, it implies the gradual and thoughtful renewal of Tabloo's permanent exhibition. First of all, the various exhibitions (installations) must remain relevant in terms of content. To this end, adjustments must be made continuously. In addition, the exhibition must also remain relevant in terms of approach and techniques in order to be attractive to visitors. Obsolete exhibitions will therefore be replaced by new exhibitions that respond to changes in the world of exhibition construction.
In order to make Tabloo an attractive destination for the day and maintain the interest of regular visitors, Tabloo has complementary content in addition to the permanent exhibition. Today, Tabloo already has a basic offer in terms of educational walks and educational workshops. This offer must be completed in order to also reach young people, families and tourists with little interest in science. In addition, this offer must also be innovative to remain relevant, current and attractive. The successful bidder will therefore develop new products such as workshops, temporary exhibitions, work and game formats, quests, etc. The service provider has the necessary expertise to develop concepts, realize concepts in 2D and 3D, translate complex content into attractive products and realize these products (graphic design, application development, software programming, furniture production, etc.).
Finally, the other elements of Tabloo's standing offer must also remain current and relevant. These include exhibitions at the tourist information point, the information library, the central atrium, the panoramic terrace and the landscaped park.
The projects of this special specification are carried out with the participation of the members of STORA and MONA (the local partnerships between ONDRAF and the municipalities of Dessel and Mol) and, by extension, of the local population of Dessel and Mol or, in general, with the population. The design and implementation processes take place with the collaboration of volunteers who actively participate in the entire process and thus become co-owners of the product. Tabloo is the fulfilment of one of the conditions set by STORA and MONA for the acceptance of a Category A waste storage facility on their territory. The complete concept of Tabloo and the plans for the building, park and exhibition were developed by working groups including volunteers from Dessel and Mol. Indeed, Tabloo also aims to welcome the local community. This participation does not stop with the opening of Tabloo. ONDRAF is committed to continuing participation through STORA and MONA and to continuing to operate the surface storage project, in all its aspects, in close consultation with the local community. This collaboration has been the strength of the project until today, and it is crucial to maintain the foundation thus generated. Tabloo will therefore continue to develop new products through participation.
The service provider must therefore have the necessary expertise in participatory design and coaching design processes involving various parties.
Since the result of this public contract will be the result of participation and it is impossible to anticipate developments in the world of exhibitions and visitor centres, the result of this public contract cannot be accurately described. In determining an indicative budget, the following accomplishments have been taken into account. This pace should make it possible to remain current and innovative.
- Annual renewal, replacement or modification of two sections of the permanent exhibition. At this rate, the exhibition will be completely renewed over a period of 20 years and will remain relevant and innovative.
- Realization of an additional or replacement "visitors" product (workshop, quest, game, ...) per year. In this way, other Tabloo "visitor" products will also be systematically updated.
- Realization of a temporary exhibition every three years. Temporary exhibitions are necessary to highlight certain (topical) themes and encourage visitors to return.
