CAOS will be the infrastructure in which the mechanical suspensions for the main optics of the future third-generation European gravitational wave observatory, called Einstein Telescope (ET), will be studied and characterized, on a 1:1 scale. The new ET interferometric detector will increase the sensitivity and extend the observation band of the current Advanced Virgo Plus (AdVPlus) and Advanced LIGO detectors to low frequencies. A similar project, called Cosmic Explorer, is being led by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC).
