The Innovation Test Centre (ITC) provides 'tailor-made' test processes for innovations from market parties, especially if they do not fit within the current regulations. For example, the ITC is involved in rws's Sustainable Road Surfaces Transition Path.
Through this Transition Path, RWS has challenged the market to come up with sustainable asphalt mixtures. This means that a large number of new sustainable asphalt types are being developed by market parties, which fall outside the existing knowledge and experience – and therefore also regulations. The intention is to test these so that – after approval – they can be purchased by RWS.
This testing of innovative asphalt types usually takes place via test sections. This asphalt is then extensively examined in laboratories and through field tests. The regular costs (for both product development and testing) are for the relevant market party. He usually draws up the Plan of Action for these tests and delivers his Research Report at the end.
