The existing branches of Politie aan Dokter Haubenlaan 2 and Koning Albertlaan 17 no longer meet the concept and design of housing the headquarters of the Police Zone Lanaken — Maasmechelen.

The municipal council has chosen to repurposed the existing building “Oude Burelen” on Heufkensweg as the housing of the main post and seat of the local police zone.

The content of the present tender file concerns the renovation of the Old Offices, including the extension with a new building at the front.

For the renovation of the old offices, it was chosen to preserve the monumental appearance as a stately mining building. This by, for example, restoring the roof and exterior joinery back to its original condition. For the internal renovation, it was chosen to fill in the existing structures and spaces as optimally and as much as possible. Interpretation of the Old Offices themselves are largely the police offices, meeting rooms, refectory, changing rooms,...

The new building is a one-tier construction with a basement level that is being built at the front of the Old Offices. Due to the limited height of this new building, the Old Offices will retain their status as a tall building. On the ground floor, the spaces where the police will receive the citizens are provided. Such as reception, conversation rooms, meeting rooms,... in basement are the necessary expansion for the operation of police forces, logistics space and underground garage for service vehicles.

After the renovation and expansion, the building meets today's standards and legislation. The renovated roof of the old offices and the new building will be provided with the necessary insulation. The flat roof is equipped with an extensive green roof.

The entire building is equipped with modern techniques such as:

ventilation systems, heating/cooling system, electrical installation according to the AREI, 4G-5G coverage, emergency generator, screens on south facades, solar panel installation, fire detection system and all this according to the current standard.

In order to meet the needs of a police commissioner, the following safeguards are provided:

No climbing, camera surveillance, intrusion prevention via ambient lighting and camera surveillance, an access control.
