LondonWaste Ltd (‘The Company’) own and operate the EcoPark Energy Centre located in Edmonton, London. The Energy Centre has 5 boilers burning approximately 500 000 tonnes of domestic refuse per year in a continuous 24 hour operation, 7 days per week. The waste is delivered by road via the weigh bridges/gate house by various types of transport. The waste is tipped and held in storage bunkers. Waste is fed by 3 5-m
The flue gas treatment plant consists of 4 streams each designed to treat up to 137 500 Nm
The superheated steam from the boilers is used to drive 4 single cylinder, 17 stage turbines to generate electrical power at 11 kV. This power is used for the house load with the surplus exported to the National Grid via 2 step-up 11/33 kV transformers. The power exported to the grid averages 32 MWh.
This specification is for the supply of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services to the Energy Centre Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). This is to ensure that the Company has competent resources available during normal and abnormal plant operations as well as planned and unplanned outages to provide operational, maintenance and overhaul services.
Each boiler undergoes an annual statutory survey and during this period 1 of the 4 FGT streams will also undergo an annual survey. During this time offload repairs are carried out such as replacement of expansion joints, cleaning of and repairs to the quench towers, repairs to booster fans, replacement of plate work where required, overhaul of conveyors and pumps, etc.
It is intended that the contract for the works defined in this specification will be for an initial period of 4 years. However, the Company retains the option to extend the contractual term for an additional period of 12 months.
