The municipality of Halderberge as a municipality consists of five village centers, has a total area of 7,500 ha and has 30,769 inhabitants (1 January 2022). Spread over the village centers there are 63 playgrounds with a total of almost 376 playground equipment.

The outdoor space is an essential part of the world of children and young people. Playing outside constantly gives children and young people stimuli that allow them to develop strongly physically, socially-emotionally and intellectually. Children and young people must be able to use public space freely and independently. Play is an activity of entertainment or relaxation, whether or not bound by certain rules, in which any element of competition or imagination is involved. In addition to the learning, resting and development element, being active in the open air is also becoming increasingly important. "Playground" means: all publicly accessible areas where one or more playground equipment or play leads are located.
