The subject matter of this contract is to define the potentials, costs and benefits, level of economic and technical feasibility and the role of renewable electricity in decarbonising space heating in buildings.
The study’s aim is to provide a quantitative, qualitative analysis to what extent deploying renewable electricity is technically, and economically feasible, what are the costs and benefits, the potentials and boundaries. It will analyse the sources of renewable electricity and its power-to-x derivatives (e-fuels) suitable to use for heating. It will provide a comparative analysis of the energy parameters, the costs of production, transport and equipment adjustments in buildings, as well as benefits, including from sector coupling and digitalisation. It will analyse barriers and the enabling framework and technologies for the use of electricity for heating. It will model a range of scenarios with various levels of heat electrification and provide an analysis of impacts.
