The works consists of up to 3 applications (per annum) of approved herbicide to all of the
adopted highway footpaths (circa 1280km consisting of tarmac, slabs, block paving, etc.),
back of path edges, walkways, splitter islands, channels, ginnels, edges of all metalled roads
and all cobbled areas throughout the borough of Rochdale to provide as near to as possible
total weed control.
The overall aim is to achieve as close as possible 100% total weed control.
To achieve a cleaner more attractive borough, the council is tendering for a weed spraying
service to treat specific areas of adopted highway across the borough to prevent the growth
of weeds likely to interfere with the highway e.g. create a hazard, cause structural damage,
affect drainage, cause a trip hazard or become unsightly.
It is proposed that the contractor will deliver three applications of MAFF registered herbicide
or other approved chemical as appropriate to Rochdale’s adopted highways as specified
above.
Application should take place as directed by Rochdale Borough Council’s Authorised Officer
but typically during spring, summer and autumn, at timings which coincide with optimum
weed growth.
