The Port of Villa San Giovanni, with an extension to the land of about 0.4 ha, falls within the system of special economic zone (SEZ) Calabria. The port has its main function in the ferrying of railway carriages on ships built for this purpose and for this purpose is equipped with special lifting bridges that allow direct embarkation. The connection with the national railway network is ensured by large shunting yards with bundles of dedicated tracks where railway operations are carried out.
The zero potting is characterized by phenomena of structural deterioration and localized subsidence of the road surface of the slide.
The intervention object of this Economic Technical Feasibility Study (hereinafter P.T.F.E) refers to the renovation of the zero slide in the Port of Villa San Giovanni, one of the four railway reservoirs with which the port is equipped, located on the east side and used for the embarkation of wheeled vehicles on Bluferries boats.
The port of Villa San Giovanni (category II, class II) falls within the competence of the Port System Authority of the Strait together with the ports of Messina, Milazzo,
Villa San Giovanni, Reggio Calabria and Saline, Tremestieri; the zero slide falls in the state-owned area managed by the ADSP of the Strait.
