The Lung Clinic Grosshansdorf is a centre for pneumology and thoracic surgery and, as a specialist clinic, serves the entire northern German region. Due to its high level of expertise in the treatment of lung and respiratory diseases, the clinic has achieved a worldwide recognized reputation.
The origins of today's highly specialized clinic go back to a "tuberculosis sanatorium", which was founded in 1900 in Großhansdorf by the then "Reich Insurance Institute". Despite numerous additions and conversions, the structural conditions in Großhansdorf were sufficient for the growing standards and increasing demands in the fifties
years of the 20th century. Between 1958 and 1961, a nine-storey, then modern hospital was built on the site on Wöhrendamm, and the old building was demolished.
To date, this new building has been extensively renovated several times: Between 1990 and 1992, the ward block
