The presence of the Norwegian Armed Forces in the defence municipalities of Målselv, Sørreisa and Bardu is of great importance to the entire region. In 2015, the Defence Municipalities carried out a "Project Defence Coordinator". This was a collaborative project with support from Midt-Tromsrådet and Troms county municipality. Målselv Municipality implements the decisions by announcing an open tender for the defence coordinator. The procurement will initially include Målselv Municipality, but the municipalities of Sørreisa and Bardu will be invited to participate at a later date.
