Due to the complexity of crude oil, full characterisation of its components requires a combination of multiple complimentary instrumental techniques. Currently, our laboratory has advanced gas chromatography and mass spectrometry facilities for analyse volatile /semi-volatile and low to medium molecular weight compounds. However, we lack the capability for identification of polar and high molecular weight constituents. Therefore, we wish to acquire a mass spectrometer (MS) coupled to a high-pressure liquid chromatography system.
