Since April 2015 transport focus has had responsibility for representing the interests of users of the Strategic Road Network in England. We work closely with Highways England, the Department for Transport (DfT), the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) and many other road industry stakeholders.

The core survey objective for SRUS, which Transport Focus has an obligation to fulfil, is:

— to provide a reliable measure of user satisfaction, to be used by ORR to monitor Highways England’s performance against the target set for it by DfT. This requires a confidence interval for the annual overall satisfaction result within +/- 1 %,

— to provide insight to help Highways England understand user experience and what it needs to do to improve it, with robust data generated for as many individual SRN roads as possible,

— to deliver additional insights through data analysis projects.
