Knowledge transfer (WT) for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) in priority areas in Saxony 2023-27

The objective of the project is

(1) the increase of nitrogen (N) efficiency in order to reduce the N discharge from agricultural land into groundwater in priority N-prone areas, and

(2) the reduction of erosion-induced substance discharges (P, sediment) on potentially highly erosion-prone areas into surface waters that are not in good status with regard to water quality according to the EU Water Framework Directive (EU WFD) and where there is a great need for action for agriculture.

The target group is agricultural enterprises and other land managers in the priority areas.

The main tasks are the technical support and advice of farmers on individual farms and the transfer of knowledge within the priority areas. Within this framework, suitable measures and new technological solutions for the reduction of N and P substance discharges from agricultural land are to be demonstrated, tested, adapted and established.
